WOW Kia’s new Telluride sold over 5,000 units in it’s first full month
https://www.kiamedia.com/us/en/media/pressreleases/15066/kia-motors-america-announces-march-sales10
That’s a hell of a first month. For reference to those who don’t click the link that’s more than 50% of the amount of Sorentos or Souls they sold.

Wonder what the new Hyundai Palisade would do in comparison

to be fair, you have to really screw up in order to not sell a ton of mid-size 2/3 row CUVs.

I already saw one on the highway and I barely drive much.
I’ve gotta be honest, it has a nice presence to it. Not freakish looking like the Atlas, but also not a Fugly Behemoth like the QX80.
It was downright
Landroverian
, if you ask me.

I saw one this moring. definitely has a unique look.

they sold 5,000 units but didn't sell 5,000 tellurides...sad

I think Kia got this one right. Styling is different enough, but not offensive. This one has presence is a way it’s competitors does not. Plenty of space and comfort to back those looks up makes a recipe for a hot vehicle.

True, right segment, right time. Still - a really good month for them. Most people don’t know what they are or that they exist still.

i saw my first one on the road the other day in silver. its a very commanding SUV. I love the move back to boxy SUVs. its just a shane that they dont really offer any colors. the online configurators has two blacks, two silvers, a white, and that greenish bronze in the title picture

They had four of them at the Kia dealer the other weekend when we took the wifey’s Sorento in for service. They really have a nice presence about them - look really good in person.
![]() 04/04/2019 at 11:09 |

We’ll have to wait and see! I feel like a lot of Hyundai and Kia buyers are probably willing to go to either brand and it’s the same thing underneath.

you know what I meant!

It is a pretty awesome step up from the Sorento (no offense to your wife’s ride). Significantly more space inside.

When I got my wife’s car serviced at the Kia dealer recently the advisor said they had only gotten 12 so far but they can’t keep them on the lot. If this plus Kia depreciation hold true then these will be the used car bargain of the decade.

Undoubtedly - she’s already eyeing them despite the fact hers is only two years old.

I was just following one this morning and thought something in the lines of : “ it looks like a clay model of a Volvo XC90 that’s been left too close to a heat source and started melting down”. At least from the rear.
( Disclaimer : m y opinion is worth what you paid for. Which is nothing, actually)

not to instigate but.... I believe they have an owner loyalty bonus on them right now...

Yeah, that’s 100% not happening, lol.

Also a surprise considering
how poorly the Borrego did, their last full-size SUV they had 10 years ago
![]() 04/04/2019 at 14:11 |
|
All about timing my friend. Borrego came out with a v8 option as gas prices were skyrocketing and people were ditching SUVs. Telluride came out when everyone is cutting sedan/car production because consumers only want SUVs.

I really wanted to like these, and I do from the outside. I even liked pictures of the inside, but I sat in one at the auto show and it looks and feels very KIA inside.
![]() 04/04/2019 at 14:55 |
|
I wonder whats being traded in for them. GM quality on their truck has been falling below customers expectations for a decade now. Those customers are ready for a new option in the bof suv catagory .
![]() 04/04/2019 at 15:20 |
|
Really? Felt pretty upscale to me. What auto show were you at? They had them all locked up at Detroit (though I had access).
![]() 04/04/2019 at 15:23 |
|
I’m not sure, I have a lot of info - but not that. I can say that if they’re looking for a BOF they’ve come to the wrong place. It may be huge inside but it does NOT come with a body on frame set up.
I can tell you that the GMC Acadia has the absolute lowest loyalty score in the segment (3 row midsize SUVs) and after them is the Nissan Murano and CX-9 (mazda’s biggest problem is that it isn’t big enough).

Philadelphia and it seemed to be one of the higher spec models . I felt the same way about the Ascent. A friend and I were helping his mother to look at replacements for her Highlander hybrid. She liked the Atlas the best, while I don’t love the exterior the inside is definitely the nicest out of everything we looked at in that segment.
I’ve always kind of felt that way about the Korean “luxury models”. They look great, but the closer you get the cheaper they feel.

I am planning on heading to my local dealer as soon as the Palisade is available.
![]() 04/04/2019 at 15:59 |

That forest green is the best color they offer in my opinion.
![]() 04/04/2019 at 17:00 |

Fascinating. I happen to think their higher trims feel real nice inside, especially the Stinger, Cadenza and Telluride. K900 was awesome inside (despite being a ridiculous vehicle for them to sell).
![]() 04/04/2019 at 17:44 |

I like this for the Pilot/Highlander/Atlas/you really should just get a minivan crowd, but it would be neat if they also made a true Tahoe/Burb competitor. Big, BOF, V8, can tow a house, but only used to pickup Aiden and Haydyn from school.

Hey if it could only handle little tighter not like sofa on wheels....

I drove by a Kia dealership. One day the lot was full of Tellurides. A couple of days later all of the Tellurides were gone and in their place were MY 2014-MY 2017 pickup trucks.

Its is by far but I wish there was more of a color palette

Interesting. Welp, right product at the right time. Time will tell where the GM triplet owners go.
![]() 04/04/2019 at 20:27 |

Yeah I m seeing quite a few of them. To be fair its an amazing value for those who need a full size SUV.
![]() 04/04/2019 at 20:50 |
|
The Atlas is freakish? I think it looks just the right amount of “aggressive” or masculine for a midsize SUV. I may be biased because I own one, but I like the looks over the other models in the segment. We mainly went for it due to the headroom, but we still like the looks.
![]() 04/04/2019 at 21:47 |

I drove a rental Atlas SE last summer, and wasn’t super impressed with the interior. The front row and dash were ok, a bit heavy on the cheap “textured” plastic, but the back two rows were expanses of cheap plastic that had visible gaps. Overall it wasn’t horrible - it was acceptable, but not as nice as the Jetta GLI I once owned. With that said, I haven't looked at the Telluride's interior in person yet, and have never owned a Kia. I guess I'll find out when I take a test drive.
![]() 04/04/2019 at 21:58 |
|
That's interesting, most reviews I've read give the Ascent higher interior quality scores than the atlas.

I’m looking forward to seeing these come off lease. Will be a good buy then.

We like the Telluride a lot, but living in HI they also an extra $4,000 on the MSRP, “market adjustment” they call it. I call it pure greed. We want one, and are in the market for a new 6+ seater SUV, but we’ll likely end up with a Traverse or something since they don't do this ridiculous "market adjustment"
![]() 04/05/2019 at 00:05 |

Even the base trims of the Elantra and Accent have impressed me with their solidity and refinement; I would hope that related Kia models have a comparable level of quality.

I’m going to guess some of all of your info would only come to oppo with giant black bars through it, Mueller report style.
![]() 04/05/2019 at 10:03 |
|
That is pretty accurate actually. I worked pretty hard to help them crack 5,000 sales, I’m not in a dealership though.
![]() 04/05/2019 at 10:07 |
|
It would be. I think if the Telluride sales continue to be high they may be able to justify building something bigger. The Telluride is a US only model so it’s a bit of a gamble for K orea anyhow.
![]() 04/05/2019 at 10:08 |
|
It’s a 3 row SUV, sounds like it handles exactly as it should
![]() 04/05/2019 at 10:09 |
|
That’s fantastic. Most people really just don’t need to own a pickup. (that being said I really like pickups, a 3 row is probably more functional though)
![]() 04/05/2019 at 10:10 |
|
Yep, the crossover market is so hot right now that for people to not buy 3 row SUVs it has to be the biggest pile of rolling garbage around. They’re like guaranteed sales.
![]() 04/05/2019 at 10:10 |

A lot of nice for the cash.

Ugh that’s crap. Call them up, tell them if they don’t drop that off you’re buying the chevy. Hopefully they drop it.
![]() 04/05/2019 at 10:16 |

I would say they do, I’ve been impressed with how nice they’ve gotten for the price tag.
![]() 04/05/2019 at 10:53 |

No. The Telluride is not a US only model. We make it for Europe and the worldwide market. All in West Point Georgia.

https://www.kia.com/eu/vehicles/kia-range/suv-crossover/
Not listed as available in European markets. Not for sale in Korea, they sell the Mohave in this class of vehicle in Korea.
It IS going to go to Canada soon, excuse that error.
It sounds like you might be from Georgia, the Telluride is nice and I’m glad it’s down there being built in Georgia, but it just isn’t being sold in all those markets.
![]() 04/05/2019 at 11:19 |

The Euro model Telluride, as we call it when produced, has wider Tag holes in the Tail Gate Outer and is shipped From KMMG to Savannah Ga to be shipped on a boat from there. Looks as though it isn’t listed online yet. Doesn’t surprise me at all, it wasn’t listed for the US website when we released them back in January.
![]() 04/05/2019 at 12:23 |
|
Well look at that. I found evidence of it going to the middle east at least. I’m still not seeing anything mentioning Euro sales, but with it going to the ME it makes sense to also export to Europe.
![]() 04/05/2019 at 12:55 |

I wonder if the reason for that is the new Acadia is quite a bit smaller than the first-generation. We looked at one before getting our Flex, but it wasn’t any bigger than the first-gen Cadillac SRX we traded in. I think GM thought having different-sized 3-row SUVs in the same showroom (Acadia --> Enclave --> Yukon --> Yukon XL) would cover all the bases.
![]() 04/05/2019 at 16:10 |
|
I saw the Telluride and I said, “I like the Telluride” but after looking into its mostly Honda Pilot-esque capabilities, I said, “You know what I don’t like the Telluride”.
![]() 04/05/2019 at 22:31 |
|
That’s unfortunate. The last thing I need is to see more ugly Kias on the road.
![]() 04/08/2019 at 10:40 |
|
O h yeah the new Acadia is definitely smaller. We test drove a 2016 a few months ago and it was the worst pile of trash we’d ever sat in. I couldn’t believe how awful it was. We didn’t leave the lot. I know you can get nicer trims than what we looked at but my god it was bad. And the loyalty stat i dropped leads people out of the brand not just the vehicle. It’s possible those people bought Enclaves because that’s “a different brand.”

Yep cuz, Kamaaina tax. I’m in SF now, expensive in other ways.
